You’re walking into a place you love and see someone you know. They ask “How ya’ doing?” and you auto answer “I’m good” whether you are or you aren’t. It’s a cultural ritual, but the impulse to think we’re good even when we’re not is much, much older than our society. Jesus saw it in first-century Judea when he encountered a successful, religious man who desired to have eternal life. After all, he had through God’s favor and blessing gained much success…right? Or, was it the enemy of God that gave that man enough success that it blinded him to what he was truly seeking?
