Gideon. Ehud. Sampson. Micah. Jephthah. All were judges in Israel, gifted by God to lead and deliver the people from themselves, the ruthless way sin harmed them and turned them against God and God against them. Each of them delivered the people…but each of them was broken by sin. They are broken heroes. We begin this sermon series in Judges by seeing that at the time of the Judges in Israel, each person did what was right in their own eyes. And God loved them enough to send judgement.
Each person did what is right in their own eyes. Is there a better descriptor for the ethos of today than that?
