The reality is not everything is worth fighting about. Some churches make the mistake of fighting about everything, and they end up destroying each other. But there are some things worth fighting over! The way we go about our figuring out the difference between things worth fighting over and things that ain’t is really important!
This is, of course, not new. The young church in Jerusalem was faced with a problem, and they had to decide whether that problem was worth a fight…or not! Deciding what to do about the problem was about as important as resolving that problem would be. Why? Because if you fight over any issue, you will be divided. What is worth dividing over? What is necessary to be part of the people of God? The issue was this: what does it require to be a Christian?
The early church decided that you could not choose on your own what that meant, that not just anyone could call themselves a follower of Christ. Truth was not relative, and this was worth fighting and dividing over. Listen and sing as we lift our praises to the Lord, pray along with us, and hear the word of God proclaimed and explained as we are reminded that sometimes we have big decisions.
